Birds (See Bird Check List) About 110 bird species have been recorded within the reserve  The following species have been designated a status according to the South African Red Data Book - Birds, (1984) by Brooke. RARE Booted Eagle, (Hieraaetus pennatus) Forest Buzzard, (Buteo oreophilus) Black Harrier, (Circus maurus) Peregrine Falcon, (Falco peregrinus) Victorin’s Warbler, (Bradypterus victorini) INTERMEDIATE House Martin, (Delichon urbica) Of extreme interest is the resident breeding pair of Black Eagles, (Aquila verreauxii) Mammals (See Mammals Check List) Vogelgat and Maanschynskop Nature Reserves. Musson (1988), Cook, (1989). (See Appendix II) 45 species are recorded, of these the African wild cat, (Felis lybica) and the Honey Badger, (Mellivora capensis) is considered VULNERABLE, according to Smithers (1986), South African Red Data Book - Terrestrial Mammals. The Aardwolf, (Proteles cristatus) , the Striped weasel, (Poecilogale albinucha) and the Leopard (Panthera pardus) are considered RARE. Amphibians (See Amphibians Check List) 15 species of Amphibians have been recorded.   Reptiles (See Reptiles Check List) 19 species of Snakes and 11 Lizards  have been recorded. The Geometric tortoise being recorded as Rare. Dragonflies (See Invertebrate Check List) Dragonflies seen at Vogelgat, Silsley (1991) species of dragonflies were recorded.
